  • Acupuncture Stops Neck Pain From Disc Degeneration

Researchers have confirmed the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating cervical spondylosis, a painful disorder brought on by intervertebral disc degeneration. Cervical spondylosis involves the general wear and tear of the discs housed within the cervical spine. As we age, our spinal discs degenerate and osteoarthritis develops. The acupuncture point GV14 has been found to be effective within many studies for the treatment of cervical spondylosis. In fact, acupuncture is effective for pain management in many areas.

Cervical discs serve as nature’s shock absorbers. The cervical spine in your neck comprises seven bones called vertebrae. They are all separated by discs filled with a gel-like substance that stabilize and cushion your neck, allowing it to turn smoothly from side to side, forward to back. Essentially, discs allow your body to move the way you want.

When they don’t work correctly, excruciating pain can result. But cervical disc disease is more than just a major pain in the neck. It can also lead to radiating pain, numbness and weakness in the hands, arms and shoulders. This discomfort and loss of mobility can negatively impact your career, family, and quality of life.

In one study, acupuncture was applied once a day for five times a week, totaling two weeks. A total of 24 out of 25 cases showed significant improvement. Another study showed a total of 53 out of 60 cases improved significantly, with 30 percent of participants experiencing a complete recovery from symptoms.

One of the studies featured a fire needle group, where nearly 40 patients were treated with quick needling with fire needling. Acupuncture resulted in a 95 percent total effective rate.

The acupuncture point GV14 was found to have the following benefits, among many others:

    • Improves free radical scavenging.
    • Protects the body from brain damage after ischemia.
    • Protects brain tissue to prevent neuronal necrosis.
    • Improves blood flow to prevent damage to neurons.
    • Improves levels of nitric oxide and nitric oxide synthase in cerebral tissue.
    • Invigorates blood circulation.

Bottom line is, GV14 is a powerful acupuncture point used in treating many infections, immune system imbalances, and inflammatory conditions. As a side note, it’s a good treatment for malaria and Lyme Disease.
